Welcome to August!
I’ve never before seen lawns in Scotland turn brown - that’s how dry it has been, even up here! The garden eagerly awaits the downpours that typically bless us this month.
While even the most mature plants are indeed showing signs of stress due to lack of water, the veggie garden is abundant. A combination of heat, sunshine, long daylight hours and conscientious watering by my husband has created an abundant harvest and we are feeling so grateful.
Despite the supersized flora, something small and wonderful has stolen our hearts. This year three hoglets have chosen our garden as their playground and we are busy helping them get the food and water they need to grow big enough to hibernate and make it through the winter.

Questions for you at Lammas - the beginning of the harvest
As we enter the period of this Celtic Fire Festival, it’s a time to slow down and celebrate what you are receiving as a result of your efforts. So what you currently harvesting? - Does it feel proportionate to the energy you have spent? More questions to reflect on over a cuppa are below.
What are you most grateful for this August? - how can you show your garden your gratitude?
What are the natural markers that show you August has arrived? and what effect do this have on your life?
How is your energy holding up in this busy season?Where are you feeling depleted, exhausted or burnt out, and what can you do about it?
What pressure did you put on yourself at the beginning of the summer to “achieve” something by the end of the summer? - and how is this actually panning out in reality? - and are you OK with this?
To honour the loving and creative aspect of the fire element, what are you currently creating?
How could you be more loving and compassionate?
Which plants are you noticing? And what could they support you in at this moment?

About the Author:
Hi, I’m Fay, the Shaman in the Garden. I live in a beautiful garden on the coast of Scotland which is my sanctuary and base for my shamanic healing practice and energy work. I teach folks how to rekindle their sacred relationship with nature, connect with plant wisdom and enjoy a more meaningful and supportive relationship with their garden.
My focus here is to share my stories, practice, ritual and insights so that you can feel more connected to the web of life and be the Shaman of your own garden.
